What warranties come with PPF, tint and ceramic coating at DYNFX?
Here are the terms we install under, what a warranty usually covers and leaves out, and what to ask any shop to put in writing.

A paint protection film warranty typically covers the film failing on its own: yellowing, cracking, bubbling or peeling within a stated number of years, as long as the film was installed and looked after the way the maker requires. It typically leaves out stone chips, accidents, scratches, wash damage and damage to the paint under the film. Terms differ from one film to the next, so get the actual document before you pay, not a one-line promise.
- A warranty is a promise about the film, not insurance for the car.
- Stone chips in the film, collisions and scratches are usually outside it.
- Length, transfer, labor and what voids it all vary by product. Ask for the paper.
- Keep your invoice and any registration. A claim often needs them.
What warranties come with the products DYNFX installs?
- Gloss paint protection film, Autobahn Incognito X: a lifetime warranty and a one-time $500 no-fault credit.
- Matte paint protection film, Autobahn Stärke: the standard 10-year warranty.
- Window tint, HITEK: a lifetime warranty covering color change, bubbling and peeling.
- Ceramic coating: Autobahn Leicht carries a 2-year warranty and Keramik X a 6-year warranty.
- Installation: our own in-house warranty covers workmanship issues, alongside the maker's warranty.
Ask us for the written terms of the product you are considering before you book, and ask every other shop the same. The rest of this page explains what warranties like these usually cover, what they leave out, and what to check in writing.
What does a paint protection film warranty normally cover?
The film's own failure. If it yellows, cracks, blisters or the layers come apart, the maker or the installer replaces it. Our terms are in the list above. The years usually count from the day of installation, and the warranty assumes the film was put on properly and cared for as instructed.
That is a narrow promise, and it is the right one to expect. The film is a layer that wears so your paint does not, and the warranty speaks to whether that layer holds together.
What does a warranty usually leave out?
More than most buyers expect. Published film warranties commonly exclude damage from:
- Improper washing or the wrong wash tools
- Harsh cleaners, solvents and other chemicals
- Scratches, stains and water spots left to dry on the film
- Collisions, accidents, vandalism and hail
- The physical impact of rocks or road debris
- Areas not re-wrapped after a paint or body repair
Many also say the warranty applies to the film only, not to the paint under it, and ask for proof of installation before they process a claim. Read the document for the film you are being sold, because each maker words its own.
Why would film that stops rock chips not cover rock chips?
A stone that breaks the film means you replace film, not paint, and that is the trade you are buying. A warranty promises the film will not fall apart by itself. It does not promise that nothing will ever mark it.
What should you ask a shop to put in writing?
Ask for the film name and the warranty document, and ask every shop the same, ours included. You want the length, what counts as a defect, who pays for the replacement film, whether labor is included, and whether there is a separate term for damaged sections.
The finishes are explained in gloss versus matte film, and the coverage options are on the packages page.
Can a PPF warranty move to the next owner?
Sometimes. It depends on the product. Some film warranties are non-transferable, and others pass to a new owner who sends proof of the original installation date, usually for the rest of the original period. That matters if you plan to sell the car, or if you are leasing: see PPF on a leased car.
How long does PPF last?
It depends on the film, the install and how it is looked after. The warranty period is the best written guide to what a film is built for, so ask what the shop promises in writing.
Film wears out mostly from the things warranties exclude: harsh chemicals, scratches and the wrong wash tools. Bird droppings left on the film do not help either. The care we give every customer:
- Wait 48 to 72 hours after the install before the first wash, so the film can cure.
- Hand wash with pH-neutral soap and a clean wash mitt. Touchless automatic car washes are fine.
- Keep a pressure washer away from the film's edges, especially in the first month.
The full routine is in how to wash a car with PPF or a ceramic coating. A wash method that is fine for one film can be excluded by another maker's warranty, so ask which methods your film's warranty allows.
What should you ask any shop about a warranty?
- Which film, exactly, and which product line within it?
- Who honors a claim: the film maker, the shop or both?
- How long, and counted from when?
- What is covered and what is excluded, in writing?
- Does it cover the labor to replace film?
- Does it transfer if I sell, and what proof does the next owner need?
- What do I register, and what do I keep?
- Which wash methods and products could void it?
- Is there a limit for track, off-road or commercial use?
If a shop cannot answer these from the document, you do not have a warranty yet. For the price side of the decision, see what decides your PPF quote, and for cars that already have damage, PPF on a used car with rock chips.
What should you keep after the install?
The invoice, any registration confirmation and the name of the film. Some makers require proof of installation before they process a claim, so the paper trail is what makes a warranty usable years from now.
Common questions
What does a paint protection film warranty cover? Defects in the film itself, such as yellowing, cracking, bubbling and peeling, for a stated number of years from installation, provided the film was installed and cared for as the maker requires. Terms differ by product, so read the actual document.
Does a PPF warranty cover rock chips? Usually not. Warranties generally cover the film failing on its own rather than damage from rocks, road debris or accidents. If this matters to you, ask the shop whether there is a separate replacement term and what it covers.
Can I transfer the warranty when I sell my car? It depends on the product. Some film warranties are non-transferable, and others transfer once the new owner sends proof of the original installation date. Ask what proof the next owner needs.
What can void a PPF warranty? Not following the maker's care and installation instructions. Examples in published warranties include improper washing, harsh chemicals and the wrong wash tools. Ask your installer which wash methods your film's warranty allows.
Do I need to register the warranty? Often, yes, and keep your paperwork. Some makers require proof of installation before they process a claim. Ask the shop what it registers for you and what you should keep.
