Should you put PPF on a leased car?

A lot of people assume PPF is only for cars you own. For many Michigan leases, it's one of the smarter things you can do.

When you turn in a leased car, the leasing company inspects it for damage beyond normal wear. On Michigan cars, the front end almost always has rock chips, and depending on your lease terms and how many there are, you may be charged for them.

How PPF helps on a lease

  • It stops chips. The film takes the rock impacts that would otherwise go into your hood and bumper.
  • It hides light scratches. Self-healing film fixes most light marks on its own with heat.
  • It comes off cleanly. Properly installed film can be removed before turn-in without damaging the paint, and the paint underneath looks the way it did when the film went on.

Which package makes sense?

Full Front is the usual choice for a lease. It covers the full hood, full front fenders, the front bumper, and the mirror caps, which take the large majority of chips from highway driving. Full hood coverage means no visible cut line across the middle of the hood.

If you drive gravel roads or put a lot of winter miles on the car, the Track Package adds the rocker panels and lower doors.

Do the math for your lease

Whether PPF pays for itself depends on your lease terms, how you drive, and how long the lease is. A long commute on I-96, I-275, or I-75 means more chips. A short lease on a car you mostly drive around town means fewer. Check your lease agreement for how it defines excess wear, then call us for a quote and compare.

There's also the part that doesn't show up on paper: driving a car for three years without watching the front end collect chips.

Leasing and ownership

If you think you might buy the car at the end of the lease, PPF is even easier to justify. The paint underneath stays protected the whole time, which matters for the car's value when you eventually sell it.

Common questions

Can you put PPF on a leased car? Yes. It protects the paint during the lease and can be removed cleanly before turn-in.

Will removing PPF damage the paint? Properly installed film comes off without damaging factory paint. We handle removal too.

Which PPF package is best for a lease? Full Front is the most common choice. It covers the hood, fenders, bumper, and mirrors, which take most of the chips.
