PPF for Tesla owners: what to protect and why

Tesla owners bring up the same thing over and over: the paint chips fast. The front bumper and hood on a Model 3 or Model Y can collect a lot of chips in the first year of highway driving, and Michigan winters make it worse.

Why Tesla paint chips so easily

Tesla paint is widely described by owners and installers as thin and soft compared to many other brands. Whatever the reason on a given car, the result is the same: rock chips go through to the primer more easily, and the paint marks up quickly from washing.

What we recommend

• Full Front is the starting point for most Teslas. It covers the hood, fenders, front bumper, and mirror caps.
• Track Package adds the rocker panels and lower doors. On a Model Y, which sits higher and has large, flat lower doors, this is worth considering.
• Full Body for owners who want the whole car protected, including the doors and rear from parking lot dings.

Correction first

Many Teslas arrive with swirls or light defects, even new ones. Film seals in whatever is underneath, so we inspect the paint and polish where it's needed before installing.

Pair it with a coating

A common Tesla setup is Full Front PPF plus a ceramic coating on the rest of the car. The film stops chips where they happen most, and the coating makes the whole car easy to wash and adds gloss. We coat over the film too, so every panel beads the same way.

Window tint for Teslas

Teslas have a lot of glass, including the big roof. HITEK ceramic tint keeps the cabin cooler and, because it's metal-free, won't interfere with phone-as-key, GPS, or connectivity. Check Michigan tint law for what's allowed on the front windows.
